In the States, this is a holiday week, and many of you may have vacation plans. We know that many of our learners may also be struggling to keep pace due to the ordinary challenges we all face–work responsibilities, family obligations, or health issues. We’ve also known from the beginning of this experiment that we wanted to design a system that would be flexible in the face of common and uncommon interruptions.
For those of you who, for one reason or another, are not keeping pace with the course, let go of your guilt and doubt. Our goal in sending out the e-mails is to provide a loose structure and a cohort of learners to study with, not to enforce a rigid progression that must be strictly adhered to. We want to be sure at this point everyone knows there is a scheduled break week between week 4 and 5. This will give you some flexibility. If you are taking a vacation this week, for instance, feel free to run behind on weeks 3 and 4, and catch up durning the break week. There’s no penalty–all we want is for you to learn Python.
If you find you are are running behind as the course progresses, and your not sure you can finish on time, you have two options:
- Save the e-mails, or consult the archive, and continue moving at your own pace. There will still be plenty of people active on OpenStudy ready to help you wherever you are in the course materials.
- Unsibscribe from the current e-mail cycle, and re-enroll at http://mechanicalmooc.org for the next cycle of the course, which will start whenever we have a critical mass of learners signed up. The course progression will be more or less the same, with a few tweaks based on what we’ve learned this time around.
Either way, the goal is to help all of you complete the work in a manner that fits into your own lives.
